The PADI Tec 40 course is the first in a series of Technical Diver courses. It is a entry-level technical diving program that teaches you the basic configurations and skills you will use as you progress to full technical decompression diving. Certified Tec 40 divers are qualified to make limited (10 min) decompression dives using equipment that is more extensive than that used in mainstream recreational diving.
By definition technical diving (tec diving) takes divers beyond the limits of recreational diving. In recreational diving if something goes wrong you can always make a direct accent to the surface at a safe speed without the need to stop. In technical diving you learn to use different equipment and practice different methodologies in order that if you are in an environment where direct access to the surface is not possible you are able to deal with emergency’s until such time as you can access the surface. This may be due to overhead environment or decompression requirement.
The Tec 40 course consists of three self study knowledge development sections, three practical applications classroom sessions, One confined water training dive and three open water training dives. At Tec Thailand the course takes three days to complete. One day classroom, one day pool and / or beach and one day on the boat completing three training dives. The course can be bundled with the PADI Tec 45 & Tec 50 course and run as a 8 day Tec Deep Diver program.
